The third annual State of Passwordless Security Report, 2023 Edition, investigates authentication risks, threats, impacts and adoption trends. Based on global security research conducted by Vanson Bourne, key findings include:

  • 28% of organizations were hit by push notification attacks (MFA bombing), more than double the number reported in last year’s study.
  • 3 of the 4 top attack vectors are related to authentication.
  • 3 out of 5 organizations reported authentication-related breaches in the last 12 months.
  • 86% see passwordless MFA as the fix to authentication security and usability problems.

The report also explores the impact of passkeys on the adoption of passwordless technologies, with a foreword by FIDO Alliance head Andrew Shikiar.
